Bio

João Tornada is a Visiting Professor at the University of Lisbon’s School of Law and holds a Ph.D. in Law, specializing in digital fundamental rights, from the Portuguese Catholic University, where he also earned his bachelor’s degree and completed his research-oriented master’s degree. He is also an Assistant Researcher at the Lisbon Public Law Research Center at the University of Lisbon’s School of Law and a member of the Lisbon Digital Rights Research Project.

João Tornada currently works as an Advisor to the Ombudsman and Arbitrator at CAAD (duties suspended).

He previously practiced law in the areas of litigation and public law and served as Chair of the Disciplinary Council of the Portuguese Fencing Federation.

He is also the author and co-author of several national and international publications on constitutional law, civil procedure, and arbitration, including the monograph “The Amendment of Unconstitutional Laws: A Study of Decisions Declaring Partial Unconstitutionality” (with a foreword by Professor Jorge Miranda), published by Almedina, Lisbon, 2021.

He has also participated in various conferences and courses on public law, particularly on digital rights.
