Synopsis

The Comments on the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, which is now presented to the public, are the result of a research project conceived and scientifically coordinated by researchers from the IJP-Instituto Jurídica Portucalense of the Universidade Portucalense-Infante D. Henrique, with the support from FCT, and carried out by them and a group of researchers from other higher education institutions and with other affiliations, duly identified in this work.
This work is not a set of annotations of the articles of the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, but rather a brief, scientifically based study of each of the Parties with a view to offering a global vision of the Party studied.
With these Commentaries, to our knowledge, the first work of this nature to be published in Portuguese, we intend to offer in this language to scholars of the Law of the Sea a theoretical instrument that allows the youngest to begin the study of this law, and the oldest versed in this branch of Public International Law, the deepening of their knowledge through the critical and holistic view of each of the Parties to this Convention. It is, therefore, a work that is of interest and is intended for students of International Law and scholars of the Law of the Sea and which, as it is in Portuguese, will certainly be welcomed in Portuguese-speaking countries.
