Jorge Reis Novais

Jorge Reis Novais is a retired Associate Professor at the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon, where he received his doctorate, after graduating from the Faculty of Law of the University of Coimbra. His research interests lie mainly in the areas of Fundamental Rights, Constitutional Law and Political Science. He was a guest lecturer at Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Universidade Lusófona, Universidade Autónoma and Universidade Portucalense. Abroad he taught at the Faculty of Law of Bissau, at the Eduardo Mondlane University and at the Agostinho Neto University, and was also a visiting researcher at the Max-Planck-Institut für ausländisches öffentliches Recht und Völkerrecht, in Heidelberg. He has administered postgraduate courses at different Brazilian universities and is a frequent lecturer and guest speaker in Brazil, at conferences and magistrates' congresses. In addition to his already extensive career as a teacher, since 1981, he was a consultant on Constitutional Affairs for the President of the Republic Jorge Sampaio between 1996 and 2006 and for the Prime Minister José Sócrates between 2006 and 2009. He was a member of the The National Council of Ethics for the Life Sciences (CNECV - Conselho Nacional de Ética para as Ciências da Vida) and the Pedagogical Council of the Center for Judicial Studies.
