Bio
João Tiago Silveira has a PhD in Law and is a Professor at the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon, in the areas of Administrative Law, Administrative Litigation, Legislative Drafting, Better Regulation and Constitutional Law.
At the Faculty he also serves as Deputy President of the Institute of Legal and Political Sciences and he is also member of the board of the International Association of Legislation.
He has relevant activity in the private sector as partner at the law firm Morais Leitão, Galvão Teles, Soares da Silva & Associados and is presiding arbitrator in the arbitration courts of the Economic and Social Council as well as arbitrator at the Administrative Arbitration Center.
He held several senior public positions, including Secretary of State for Justice, Secretary of State for the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and Director of the Legislative Policy and Planning Office of the Ministry of Justice. In these roles he conceived and implemented initiatives in the areas of simplifying records, notary and industrial property, use of new technologies in courts, better regulation, urban rehabilitation, alternative dispute resolution and Administrative Litigation Reform.
His areas of interest are Administrative Law, Administrative Litigation, Urban Planning Law, Environmental Law, Administrative Simplification, Legislative Drafting, Better Regulation and Constitutional Law, areas in which he regularly speaks at courses and conferences.
