Bio
Federica Montanaro is a postdoctoral researcher at Lisbon Public Law, working on the LIFE ECOFORCE project. Her research explores how criminal law responds to environmental harm and corporate wrongdoing, bringing socio-legal perspectives into dialogue with law and political economy and critical criminology.
She holds a PhD in Law, awarded cum laude by the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies in Pisa, where she investigated corporate criminal responsibility for environmental harm. She has contributed to research on business integrity, the circular economy and penal policy, undertaken research stays at European universities, and completed a Blue Book traineeship at the European Commission’s DG GROW.
Within LIFE ECOFORCE, she examines how the EU Environmental Crime Directive can work in practice: how its legal thresholds can become operational criteria, and how administrative and criminal enforcement connect across Member States. Her work contributes to practical guidance for those investigating, prosecuting and adjudicating environmental offences.
