WATER CONFERENCE

Water Waste Lisbon is a research project by the Lisbon Public Law Research Centre dedicated to the study of water and waste law. Our research aims to improve the creation and implementation of public water and waste policies, namely through scientific and academic debate on the options taken by public decision-makers and by presenting alternative solutions to the problems posed in specific situations.
Through interdisciplinary initiatives, it seeks to produce theoretical and practical knowledge that frames the study of the operation of public water and waste services in the broader context of public policies that have been pursued in these sectors of administrative activity. It intends to define ‘benchmarks’ and identify and disseminate the best practices in the management of these services. Our research aims to evaluate the ways in which services are provided by public and private entities and identify the best lines of intervention by regulatory bodies, namely in the form of regulations and tariffs.
The Water Waste Lisbon also promotes the study of the interaction between the protection of water resources and the operation of water and waste services, especially regarding the fulfilment of environmental obligations and quality standards in the provision of services by operating entities in the water and waste sectors, while taking into account the economic and financial sustainability of these entities and the availability the infrastructures integrated into public water and waste services.
