Introdução ao Direito do Ambiente (5ª edição)

The pretext of this new edition is purely editorial — the fourth edition, at the end of 2018, was sold out. With a new semester at the door at the Faculty of Law of Lisbon and the Faculty of Law of the Catholic University of Porto, it proved essential to replenish the stock. The mere reprinting of the previous edition was permissible given that, with the exception of the Climate Basic Law, there was no major legislative change in this area that would make an update imperative. But I ended up choosing to launch a general review, correcting mistakes, making small changes, deleting some text and adding another.
There are three obvious changes: firstly, in Chapter I, the reference to a trend that has been intensifying, in doctrine, in jurisprudence but also at the legislative level, of changing the legal status of certain natural environmental components, maximum of (domestic) animals. It should be noted that the subject of Animal Law can be seen as a sub-branch of Environmental Law but, in my opinion, only from the perspective of the non-socialized animal.
In any case, I thought it was justified to make a brief mention of the topic. Secondly, in Chapter III, as I have already said, it became unavoidable to note the national Climate Basic Law, in mirror with the European Climate Law, expression of the European Ecological Pact.
