A Guerra na Ucrânia e a liberdade de expressão no século XXI

This article begins by outlining some general considerations on freedom of expression and its importance for democratic societies. It then characterizes the so-called “digital revolution” and diagnoses the main current problems facing freedom of expression. In this context, attention is given to the challenges posed to freedom of expression by the War in Ukraine, a topic that is subsequently addressed. In this regard, the article explores international responses to the issue of disinformation in the context of the War in Ukraine, with a particular focus on the European Union (EU) sanctions imposed on Russian media outlets and the assessment of their legality by European courts in the RT France judgment (T-125/22). The significance of this ruling warrants a brief commentary. The article concludes by proposing a new interpretation of freedom of expression in light of the issues highlighted by the response to disinformation during the War in Ukraine. RT France (T-125/22).
