New Lisbon Environmental Law Databases

Reaffirming its commitment to open science, Lisbon Environmental Law (LEL) at the Lisbon Public Law Research Centre today launches an open platform of Environmental Law databases..

These resources underpin legal research, strengthen verifiability and replicability, and have the potential to optimise and enhance the work of researchers, judges and legal practitioners, policymakers, specialised journalists, and students.

CJEU Climate Cases Database (CJEU-CCD)
A structured, analytical database of climate cases before the Court of Justice of the European Union, the first fully dedicated to this forum. It maps the CJEU’s framings, legal grounds and decisions, enabling the identification of jurisprudential trends and strategic litigation patterns.

Climate Litigation Observatory (CLO)
A dynamic, curated database of climate litigation across jurisdictions.
Deliberately non-exhaustive by design, it identifies and maps trends, arguments and patterns, with added value in the classification system and keyword mapping that enable comparative readings across countries and regions.

Jurisprudência Ambiental do Tribunal Constitucional (JATC)
Compiles and systematises 114 decisions of Portugal’s Constitutional Court with environmental relevance. It offers the first focused reading of the constitutional treatment of the environment in Portugal, supporting the development of critical mass among jurists and judges.

Constitutional Environmental Clauses (CEC)
Brings together 194 constitutions in force to map four key constitutional clauses for environmental protection (environmental information, environmental protection, the right to a healthy environment and access to information).
It includes clause-based coding and an Environmental Protection Score (0–4) for cross-regional and cross-system comparisons.
