Bio
José Miguel Figueiredo is an international consultant for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in São Tomé and Príncipe, starting his duties on 1st November 2024, with the mission of operationalising and promoting the Arbitration Centre of the Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Agriculture and Services of São Tomé and Príncipe. Since December 2024, he has been counsel at DLA Piper, Portugal. He has held positions in the Portuguese government at the Ministry of Economy, including as Head of Office for the Secretary of State for Tourism, Trade, Services; Head of Office for the Secretary of State for Tourism, Trade, Services; Head of Office (in substitution) and Assistant to the Secretary of State for Trade, Services and Consumer Protection. He also served in the Government of Macau as an Adviser in the Department of Legal Reform and International Law Services and as Division Head and Functional Chief at the Department of Justice Affairs Services. He was a visiting assistant at the Faculty of Law, University of Lisbon, a trainee lawyer at PLMJ – Law Firm, and a consultant at AAMM – Law Firm. He is the author of over 40 scientific publications, including monographs, book chapters, and articles.
